Loi Katong Festival

Sunday 25th November 2007

“Loi” means to float. “Katong” means a Lotus shaped vessel made of banana leaves.  The Katong usually holds a candle. In Thailand the festival takes place in late November on a full moon when the river is high.

Thai people believe the festival offers thanks to the Goddess of water.  The candles are lit and a wish is made as the Katong is launched in canals, rivers or small ponds.

It is believed that the Katong can carry away bad luck.  It is the time to start the “coming new year” with hope and good health.

During this special evening you will be invited to make a wish on the Wonee.
